Numeracy is the ability to understand, use, and apply mathematical concepts and skills in everyday life. Introducing numeracy to young children can help them develop a strong foundation in math and prepare them for future academic success.
Here are some tips on how we introduce numeracy to young children:
1. Counting: Start with counting aloud, from 1 to 10 and beyond. We use everyday objects such as toys or food items to help children count and understand the concept of numbers.
2. Number recognition: Help children recognize and identify numbers by pointing them out in everyday situations.
3. Comparing and ordering numbers: Teach children to compare and order numbers, for example, by showing them sets of objects and asking which set has more or fewer items.
4. Basic arithmetic: Introduce basic arithmetic concepts such as addition and subtraction by using visual aids such as counting fingers or using objects to represent numbers.
5. Problem-solving: Encourage children to solve simple math problems, such as how many apples are left if three are taken away from five.
6. Math games and activities: Make math fun by playing games such as number bingo, or using puzzles and manipulatives to help children understand mathematical concepts.
7. Reinforcement: Provide positive feedback and praise for children who are learning math concepts. This can help build their confidence and encourage them to continue learning.
We aim to keep the activities age-appropriate and make learning fun and engaging. By introducing numeracy to young children in a positive and supportive way, we can help them develop a lifelong love of learning and a strong foundation in math.

Hello! As a childcare educator, my main focus is on providing a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for children to learn and grow. I believe that every child is unique and should be given opportunities to develop their individual talents and interests. In my role, I aim to create an environment that fosters creativity, curiosity and exploration, where children feel comfortable to take risks and make mistakes. I believe that play is a powerful tool for learning and development, and I strive to incorporate play-based activities into daily routines. As an educator, I also believe in the importance of building strong relationships with families and the wider community. By working collaboratively, we can support each child’s learning and development holistically, and ensure that they have the best possible start in life. Overall, my goal is to create a positive and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and supported, and where they can develop a lifelong love of learning.
